Sponsors are the heart and soul of Big Heart!

Becoming a sponsor at Big Heart means this:

You will make a monthly donation to cover the cost of tuition, uniform, and other fees for a specific child in Guatemala to complete their elementary education.

You, as a sponsor, will communicate directly with your recipient child through our Recipient Forum page.  Once you select a child, a forum folder in which you can post messages back and forth will be created.  This communication enables you to build a close and endearing relationship with your recipient child. Please do not share personal information such as email addresses using this forum.

Each prospective sponsor should review the current children who are available for sponsorship below. Then, email us at at sponsor@bighearthumanitarian.org with the name of the child you would like to sponsor. Within 48 hours we will contact you with information on how to begin sponsoring.

Children in need of sponsors:

Jesmine Choy

Patzicia School

Jesmine a charming 4 year old, will be entering PreKinder this year. With three older brothers and an older sister, Jesmine just enjoys life. She enjoys playing with her siblings and with her doll. She also likes animals and thinks it is funny that her older brother Pedrito is afraid of them. She wants to learn to read like her older sister. Her dad is a maintenance man and her mother keeps busy at home with her five children.

Kellyn Elizabeth Choy

Patzicia School

Kellyn is a sweet and tender first grader who excels in everything she does. She wants to be a veterinarian because she loves dogs and wants to have one when she grows up. She has 3 brothers and 1 younger sister. Her dad is a maintenance man and her mother works hard at home. Kellyn likes to eat chicken but she feels sorry for them. Being the oldest girl Kellyn has a lot of responsibility in the house, but is happy to help because, as she says: "I am happy I have a family, and I love them."

Luisa Domingo

Patzicia School

Luisa is a kindergartner beyond her years and is already showing signs of becoming a great student. She takes pride in her work in the classroom and enjoys math and social studies. While others are playing she can be found sitting and pondering her surroundings and what is going on. But when she is ready to play she likes to jump rope and play with her doll. Her dad is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. She has two older sisters and a younger brother

Jessica Bocel

Patzicia School

Jessica is a happy kindergartner. She and her mom have a new family with a dad and 5 new sisters. Her new dad and her mom just had a baby, so Jessica is happy, even though she would like a brother. When she has nothing to do, she likes to draw and paint. When she grows up she wants to be a teacher.

Sara Beatriz Vicente Gómez

Patzicia School/ 6th Grade

Sara comes from a very poor family. She suffered verbal and physical abuse from her alcoholic father until finally he abandoned them. Sara and her two older brothers stayed with their mother who worked various domestic jobs to provide for them. Because of her lack of a good diet and other life conditions Sara’s mother contracted a cancer of the digestive system that ultimately lead to her death in 2008. At her death the three children were passed on to the care of an aunt. Unfortunately their aunt does not have the necessary resources to satisfy the children’s basic needs.

Gloria Chacach Colaj

Patzicia School

Gloria moved from Piero Moari (a small village) to Patzicia to live as a servant because she wants to attend school. She is fortunate to be living with a good family who will allow her to do so. Gloria is a serious 13 year old who has aspirations to be an astronaut. (We like her drive and enthusiasm!) Her dad died when she was only two years old so she has had to learn to work in the fields with her mother and siblings. Still, she is happy and optimistic about the future even though she has seen some of her siblings fail. Gloria likes to read whenever she can get her hands on a book.

Inmelda Chacach Colaj

Patzicia School

Inmelda lives as a servant with a family in Patzicia so she can attend school. Although she is a happy and charming 11 year old girl, she is also afraid of being away from her mother. But, she wants better than one of her older sisters who is a single mother with two very young children; so she is trying to be courgeous and seek a better future. She doesn´t know what she wants to be yet, other than she wants to learn how to enjoy math. She also likes to read when she can find a book.

Margarita Chacach Colaj

Patzicia School

Margarita has five sisters, all living well below the poverty line because their father died before Margarita and her twin sister Inmelda were born. The mom does what she can to keep them fed and clothed but she is seeking help to put them in school because she knows it is the only way out for them. Margarita is a fun and bright little girl who finds joy in the simple things – even work, which she has to do to help put food on the table.
